Talk with your Mouth Full

After the big move to Saskatoon, which happened in early December, and my first real holiday in years, I’m back into the journalism groove.

Since getting back I’ve realized that the number of resources about HIV is increasing. Saskatchewan’s Provincial Leadership Team is going all out with their (new-ish) website. There isn’t a lot of information on there, but there are lots of links. I think they are working in the right direction, hopefully they pick up the pace though as there are only a few years left for the strategy.

Far more exciting is what AIDS Saskatoon is up to. They have started a series of discussion about their programing, HIV and Hep C, volunteer opportunities and harm reduction information. The series began Friday, with Cathy, who works with the organization, giving on of the best introduction to HIV and HCV presentations I’ve ever heard. Check out the rest of the events at Talk with your Mouth Full.

World AIDS Day

Dec. 1 is World AIDS Day, a time of year when people speak about HIV/AIDS and politicians have the chance to launch programs and platforms.

After all the recent coverage of HIV I’ve done recently, it was a quite day for me … but I was invited to speak with Richard Brown about HIV in Saskatchewan. It’s an opportunity I wouldn’t pass up.

The face of HIV in Saskatchewan

Just finished uploading all the pieces from the articles on the Face of HIV in Saskatchewan that ran online at paNOW and on 900 CKBI.

It was more than eight months of work and research that went into the stories that look at some of the people affected by HIV and AIDS in the province. The series was made possible by a journalism grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. While the first 10 pieces are up, it is a topic that I can’t seem to let go and plan on continuing to research. It seem that with these pieces, every time I learned something new there were so many more questions. I’ll be updating the page with videos and photos eventually.
